Treaty 8 First Nations Court Challenge against Site C began last week

The provincial Treaty 8 court challenge against Site C began on Thursday last week.  The hearings were preceded by a gathering of First Nations speakers, drummers and supporters on the steps of the BC Supreme Court.  Treaty 8's lawyer began the hearings by reading some very powerful statements to the Court from testimony before the Joint Review Panel—testimony about the tremendous rate of industrial development in Treaty 8 territory, the huge impact of the existing dams on the Peace River, and the deep impacts upon First Nations’ ways of life.  Proceedings are expected to continue likely until tomorrow, Tuesday, April 28th.  More photos from the event:
